It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website of the British Business Group in Abu Dhabi.
Both the UK and UAE have ambitious visions for the future with increased prosperity at their heart. We both want to build back better, to be at the cutting edge of innovation and technology but also to be at the forefront of tackling climate change. The thousands of commercial ties that we already have are a key part of the glue that binds the UK and the UAE together. Some 100,000 UK nationals live in the UAE and an estimated 5,000 British companies are active in the here. The UAE is a major source of direct investment into the UK, including significant new investments announced since the UK’s exit from the EU; and the UK has the largest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows into the UAE.
Those ties are both growing and adapting. The GCC as a whole is the UK’s 3rd largest export market (behind the USA and China; the UAE is the 20th largest export market globally, accounting for £10bn of UK exports in the four quarters to Q3 2020.) Our bilateral trading relationship is increasingly focusing in on sectors that will be at the heart of post COVID growth – such as life sciences, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, food and drink and financial services.
As a government we want to help create the environment and opportunities that will help your businesses thrive in Abu Dhabi. The BBG is at the heart of that effort. They work closely with the Department for International Trade to support British businesses in the UAE. They provide a fantastic range of events including: briefings; sectoral discussions; business breakfasts; engagements with trade missions; guest speakers, and other networking events that all will help you to build up the contacts and the knowledge to enable you to succeed in this market.
The BBG will help you be part of the ever more exciting and new opportunities that this market offers. So do join up and take part!
